  • Anytime you get into the workings of the PC you take some risk. It is as much as you can do, to secure the monitor connection. If you get no video and the monitor LED stays amber (not green) and behaves as it does when the PC is turned off then you are not getting a good power on self test from your motherboard. I suggest take the added memory out and see of POST returns. If not, take all memory modules out and see if you at least get an audible buzz or alarm from the motherboard speaker. Sometimes if the memory you add is not the same speed or type rating as what the manufacturer specifes then you can damage the motherboard. Also it's somewhat delicate equipment. Even a skilled and careful technician may damage the motherboard by making it bend slightly when inserting memory. Sometimes the memory will catch a metal clip and short out the board; use a flashlight and magnifying glass to look for damage. Sometimes all you have to do is try again reseating the memory. Sorry it's not a simple one-answer thing but with 20 years in computers I know the complications.
