We always had dogs and cats. Once a young raccoon. Once a duckling that imprinted on the dogs and tried to bark. Once a rabbit. Several parakeets. It think it's really important for kids to have pets, once the kids are big enough not to hurt the pets inadvertently.

Yeah...I lived in the country when I was younger. We had 2 cocaos... A blacky AKA BLACK DOG. Ginger a mutt but she was sooo cute Pervert the cat Gracy the cat Frasier I had a baby squirrel till it got big enough a couple baby birds. 2 ferret Ranger and Ginger... Strange story about the ferret One day I opened the front door the leave and there was a ferret on the porch at first I thought it was mine that got out, but it was someone else not ranger. Never found an owner and we put up signs... So we kept her. She was my wonder pet...lol.

My parents gave up trying to stop me from having pets when I was about 7. I was always bringing something home.

Yes. Usually a cat, sometimes a dog - not including the mice and turtles.

I had a few but my parents were never happy about it sadly.

Nope-my mom could barely take care of us kids but my granny had them so I learned alot from her. Spent most my time there while moms worked. First thing I did when I moved and could afford to take care of one was get me a pet (dog-Nikki the mutt).
