I have used scuba equipment so I have breathed under water.

had this wierd experience once when i was younger. was swimming in the pool and was under water near the steps and for some strange reason i breathed in my nose and no water went in, i breathed out my mouth and no water went in. took like 2 breaths and shook my head and my mouth, nose, eyes, ears everything filled with water. i think i was in an air pocket or something.

only when snorkeling and that took a while to get the hang of it.

In the shower sometimes, I get the overwhelming urge to breathe water up my nose. It soon passes when I start choking LoL.
-
I have never tried that.

WAY back when I was learning how to swim, we dove into the water (shallow section, of course), and I remember something happening and I inhaled. Nothing happened. I was standing immediately, but I remember that inhale. Maybe the water was all churned up by others diving in, too, or maybe my own hands oxygenated the water when they went in enough that I could do that at that time. I tried, ONE other time in my life a couple of years later, with the expected choking on water. Never tried since, at least on purpose. LOL ;-)

With scuba gear or a snorkel. It's not to be recommended otherwise. Water in the lungs is not fun. (points monster won't let me give you any more, Lynn) :-(
-
Only with an oxygen tank.
