What 'makes' a fanatic is a combination of self righteousness combined with an upbringing that disallowed questions in general. The 'dont ask, just do as I say because I said so' type of upbringing. The very people who passed on this type of unquestioning reality are the ones who passed on the self righteousness of being allowed to instruct and demand of others without having to explain themselves. The result is a person so closed to logic and reason that they single themselves out from the 'world' as they call it by looking down their noses at everyone else...damning them to hell or Armageddon or any other apocalyptic place they can condemn them to in order to justify to themselves that they will not have such a fate. The really sad part, is the constant burden and guilt they carry because they are after all only human like the rest of us, and with it comes mistakes that just might take them to the same place they've condemned everyone else to. What a terrible self made prison that is.
