I benefit far more from services like these than I pay for them.
I was born in a hospital, and was born with a disability. All my medical treatment was paid for by my government.
I was educated, at no cost to my parents, from the age of 4 to 18.
If I am ill, I can go to a doctor and I don't ever have to pay more than £7.50 for medicines.
My home and my community is protected by a police force and a fire service.
If I were to become unemployed, I would feel safe in the knowledge that I would not starve, I would continue to have a roof over my head, and I would continue to be able to have medical care if I needed it. The same will happen when I retire, even if I have not contributed to a private pension, regardless of how long I live.
I pay around £80 a month for all of this and more. I think I have a pretty good deal here.
So far so good. About a third.
Yes, particularly those "military" social programs for the No-Bid contracts those republicans brought about:

Unnecessary social programs, like the war in Iraq that GWB started - YES I am tired of supporting Halliburton.
Please list the unnecessary social programs... inquiring minds want to know.
After the amount I pay towards my health insurance out of my gross pay, I take home about 74% of my gross check.
.
Social Security is about 22% of total taxes and is expected to be defunct by the time I retire. It would be just as effective to burn 22% of the total taxes I pay.
.
FWT is about 29% of my total taxes. Considering the gov't does not allocate tax dollars to where I see fit, not to mention the bulk of that money going towards loan interest, this also would be akin to burning another 29% of my taxes.
.
My health insurance is not the greatest and makes up 35% of my total taxes. I haven't even been to the dr. in years but without the insurance I could end up much more screwed than I am on a weekly basis. Paying someone to pay my dr. bills is just another form of burning money. Especially when you consider I would be known as a "good" customer solely because I cost the insurance company less money.
.
I'm tired of earning money based on my valuable time (if not valuable to you, then certainly valuable to me) in order to allow a corrupt system to continue to exist. If I can be approved for gov't assistance, then what incentive do I have to actually work for a living? What good has paying taxes ever done? I'm tired of losing money to a corrupt gov't that makes its decisions based on the amount of money paid them by corporations.

I agree with what you say, I am not targeting you...There is too much fraud here in the US with welfare....
by Catherine on October 5th, 2009
While I agree that ANY fraud is too much fraud, the myth of widespread welfare fraud is just that, a myth.

by Catherine on October 7th, 2009
I have no doubt that that there is fraud, but don't assume it is "widespread."
