Well, it's a personal thing, but in general I believe you to be correct about taking precautions. Personally, I do not post my email in my profile as a matter of routine business. However, I DO have an email that I occasionally post there for people to use: I call it my "spam account". My spam email account is one I use for websites and people that I am unsure of. It's not my normal account and nobody important to me sends anything to it. I screen unknown people and websites through it. So I could care less if someone gets ahold of it and sends a ton of cr*p to it. I just periodically delete everything in that account anyway, without even glancing through who the people are usually. When I want someone I don't know well to email me, I give them that address...or post it in my profile for them to see and later remove it. These people have to put something in the subject line so that what they send will stand out to me. After I've gained some confidence in who I am talking too, I may give them my normal email address.
