  • this link has some myths http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Balding#Baldness_folklore
  • There is not one cause for baldness and probably more than one reason. For males it may be what it called "male pattern baldness" which involves partial hair loss, or it could be total. There is also a female form, in which generally (though not always) less hair is lost. both of these appear to be genetic in origin, but there is no real pattern of inheritance that has been established. There are some types of baldness that are environmental in cause: ponytail baldness may be caused from pullin on hair with too much force over a long period. Covering the head and not letting the scalp breathe can also cause hair loss. Trauma such as chemo, war etc can cause hair loss and infections can also be a cause. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baldness goes through this in detail
  • generally its genetic, if your father went bald and your male then there is a fair chance you will to. People go bald because the hair folicles become dormant and no longer produce hair. There is no real cure for this but it doesnt stop companies making billions of dollars producing so called hair restoration products
  • Some men choose to go bald because they think it looks tougher or because some women think it is sexy.
