Mike, I love Opals probably better than anything. Thanks for that fantastic description of what you've owned. Very informative. I love any stone that has that opalescence and the fire just makes it over the moon fantastic. I also love star sapphires and moonstones.

TY for the points. I like stars, both 4 and 6 pointed. You might like to take a course in crystallography, it will do one wonders in how and why stones work the way they do. and any book by John Sindowkis(sic) head of natural history at the Smithsonian in the '70's. several GREAT Books.

Jade is not only a gemstone, it is considered the most expensive on earth. I was floored when I read this because I always thought Jade was an inexpenisve material, but apparently there are some very high grades.

Thundereggs look like regular rocks until you cut them in half. Here's a couple pics of some:

They are found in locations where there were active volcanoes.

Yes, related to geodes! We live around Mt. Rainier so we have quite a collection. I used to go rock hounding with a good friend of mine years ago. I remember this huge piece of opal that we had to dig out of a wall behind a waterfall. We looked pretty funny! A couple of gals taking turns climbing up there and chipping away at it and getting soaking wet!
