Its hard to pick a favorite! I love diamonds of course, but some of the colorful ones are beautiful as well like sapphires, aquamarines, amethyst, etc. What I really like is seeing them in their natural form. I have a piece of micaschist with garnets sticking out of it. Thundereggs are also pretty cool when opened up.

I like Opals, ones with big point flash and ones with sheet fire. I have owned crystal opal with sheet ghost fire, and red body Mexican jelly opals in matrix that one could get lost in sitting in a sunny park. As for crystals I have seen some smithsonite cut stones that take your breath away. I like Idocyte for its BiColor refraction. but both of the above are soft for crystal gems. I like YAG's for manmade stones, refraction of over 4.04 and if well cut, the most fire and color of any stone.
