How brave is it of David Letterman to confess to having affairs instead suffering blackmail?

Confessed or not, an affair is an affair. Its kind of like... "He murdered people..But he told us about it so its not like he lied or was blackmailed. That makes it all better!"

I guess it could be considered brave if he stood a lot to lose, like his wife and family. But I think his show was a REALLY inappropriate forum to confess his sins.

I agree it was to a large extent damage control. We do not know the nature of his relationship with his sons mother or with the woman or women in question. Letterman and his wife have been married a pretty short time. Whether they were extra-marital affairs or just relationships that occurred prior to marriage is unknown. It is entirely possible the misses knew about the relationships he had. One poster mentioned the forum he chose to disclose the affair. I think it was entirely appropriate to share the information on the show. After all it is a forum he controls. No one is going to selectively edit his words or make accusations or pry into the identity of the woman or women involved. When he went to the police disclosure was inevitable. The blackmailer obviously counted on that right? Disclosing it on his own forum makes sense.

Brave? Is it "brave" for one to confess--after having gotten beaten until it was made? He MUST be a republican. Poking fun at politicians when their "indiscretions" come to light--like HIS hands are squeaky-clean!!! Pointing an "accusatory finger" at those who have "fallen from grace." Now, when the shoe is on the OTHER foot--Dave is, all-of-the-sudden, "brave?" Excuse me while I go PUKE!!! It's bad enough that his show SUCKS--now this!!! Time to retire, Dave!!!!

David Letterman has to deal with his wife and perhaps the fallout out of the fact that he might have been involved with some married gals. He realizes that he did some "creepy things" but most men in power or in the media do this all the time. Personally, the guy is unattractive to me and he couldn't pay me enough money to have sex with him.
