  • Derek Jeter. Back in June of 2007, I had Derek Jeter as having 3.8 years left until he reached the milestone. He should reach 3,000 hits in about 1.4 seasons now. That is, in around May 12 of 2011. Ken Griffey Jr. has 16 more career hits than Jeter, but he is also four years older than Jeter and has been struggling these past few years. I don't think he'll get to 3000, and if he does, it will obviously take him more than 1.4 seasons. Ivan Rodriguez also has an outside shot at 3,000, seeing as how he is at 2711 and is 37 years old. However, he is a catcher so he may retire before 3,000. Rodriguez will probably finish with a little less than 2950 hits. If Rodriguez does reach 3,000 hits, it'll take him about a season longer than Jeter...so in about 2.4 years (around May 12, 2012), he might have 3,000. I don't see him getting there though. The guy I see reaching 3,000 hits after Jeter is Alex Rodriguez. Back in June, 2007, I had Rodriguez as taking more than 4.5 years to reach 3,000. Right now, I have him reaching it in about 2.7 seasons. So around July 6, 2012, I think A-Rod will be reaching 3,000 hits.
