  • We don't treat them as another person, because they're not. They are animals. We're at the top of the food chain and they are not, just as nature intended.
  • Well, like the poster above said "They're not people" But to also continue this. 1. Abuse from family, they cannot stike out on a strong person, so they go for what they see as weak. 2. Misdirected anger (Inclusive to the above) 3. Just plain mean. I had 2 dogs which took me 2 years to get them to understand when I crack a beer, I WON'T beat on them like the last human did.
  • People don't treat them as other people because they aren't
  • Other animals are not people. Having said that, cruelty to animals is generally illegal.
  • The attitude of this question is that animals deserve equal or even better treatment than humans, and I think that is deeply wrong. "Animal lovers" who would protect flies do so at the expense of the health of humans. "Animal lovers" who would pay for a kidney transplant for their cat are strangely absent when there's a collection for a kidney transplant for a human. According to the UN, 852 million people in the world don't have enough to eat. Now get out there and feed every one of them before I hear you whine again about killing a chicken for dinner. http://www.commondreams.org/headlines06/1020-01.htm
  • The first thing that leaps to mind is that we don't eat people. Why do we eat animals? Because we are higher on the food chain - same reason some animals eat other ones. +5
  • I agree, if animals were able to speak our language they would be able to protect themselves. But as they can't, humans take advantage because in general they are selfish, greedy, arrogant and callous.
  • You sound like the type of fool who would shoot a wolf that is attacking a rabbit. Oooh the poor rabbit. Except the wolf is an animal too, you forget that. Without being able to kill the rabbit for its dinner, the wolf dies. Yes, death is a part of the natural system of things, even without people. Animals are, always have been, and always will be, food. The bird eats mosquitoes, the cat eats birds, the bear eats the cat, and the mosquito drinks the blood of the bear. It all works out. Now go wring your hands somewhere else.
  • We don't treat them as another person because they are not another person. There are other differences between humans and the various other species of animal than speech we can understand. Similarly, a lion will not generally treat you as another lion nor will a bear treat you as another bear because you are not one.
