It very well might, however I have used compressed air to blow the old/dried ink out of the jets on the carriage and my printer worked good as new. Also, it could be the waste tanks. Cannon printers have a sponge under the print area that absorbs excess ink during cleanings and in between the printing of multiple pages. Once this sponge is fully saturated it will stop printing to the paper regardless of how new the cartriges are.
