Firstly, it takes about 2 weeks before a person would die of lack of food. If I had water shelter and fire,
    1) I would be ascertaining which way to civilisation
    2) I would be resting during the heat of the day and walking later afternoon and night
    3) I would be looking for signs of food eg lizards, snakes, spiders, grubs...they may not be the most appetizing food but they will keep you alive. the fire will cook them
    4) even if there was no food, as long as there was water, you could keep going.

In short, your scenario would not convince me that i had to eat my friend or he me....so would I eat him: no.

no i dont think i would eat them. first it takes awhile for them to die... and second, their "meat" would be tainted. you dont eat something that just died usually, you have to kill it a certain way so that it doesnt make you sick. and third... i just dont think i could actually cut my friend up and eat them, id rather starve.

I wish you asked this question two years ago, when I lived on a farm and my best friend was a cow.

But in all seriousness, if my best friend (person) said eat me, I don't think I would. At least, not if I were alone. If I had more company to encourage me, and reassure me that it's not such a bad thing to want to survive, I would.

I'd never eat any part that was clearly human. Hands and feet would have to be removed, just as the chefs in Shackleton's Northern expedition did.

    EDIT:
    On second thought:
Are we aloud to amputate each other while we're still alive, and share the meals generated with out own legs? Why only eat after the first guy's dead?

no. at one of my jobs all the employees had to wait in the vestibule after closing while the managers checked the store and turned on the alarm. we would have odd conversations. one night i was voted "first to be killed and eaten" in a stranded situation because i was the only vegetarian in the bunch. :)

By the time I was starving to death I would very likely become delirious and can't answer for my actions at that point.

I wouldn't be able to. I'd probably be crying and lying by his or her side until my own death came.
