memory on chips can be used and reused, memory in magnetic storage devices is forever. save a few drill holes :D but you get the picture? memory from dram for instance is available and reusable is the differance the hard drive is permanently marked, thats why you have to create a new partition when reinstalling your os, because the other one is still there.

"Memory" on magnetic media (Hard Drives, etc) isn't memory, it's storage.

So it is just different name for ROM and RAM? That is easy then. Thanks. Answer: ROM - Read Only Memory are just CDs/DVDs which are magnetic memory. We cannot rewrite, delete, edit etc. on them. We can just put something on the CD and that will be Readable only. RAM - Random Access Memory which are we putting into the computer as a hardware. In that memory type our computer saves automatically things that we are on in GUI (Graphic User Interface), we can do any thing what we want with "windows" in our machine, but that memory will be lost after reseting our GUI, so Log Off, Turn Off or Restart.
