  • The answer to this question is blindingly obvious, Lobsters and Crabs are animals, Vegetarians do not eat the flesh of animals, ergo the consumption of Crab and Lobster is not Vegetarian.
  • Eat whatever you want, don't pay attention to hypocrites who tell you not to eat this or that. A lobster is an arthropod, as are head lice and cockroaches. So if someone says you're cruel to eat one, they're a hypocrite if they ever wash their hair, thus killing a very similar life form.
  • Vegetarians don't eat animals of any kind. I suppose you can eat what you want to, but a vegetarian (lacto/ova) will only eat dairy & eggs from animals. Not any animal whether it is fish or shrimp or lobster. Vegans don't eat any product from an animal. No dairy or eggs. If you eat lobsters and crabs, you can call yourself a piscetarian
  • you should eat what you want rather than try to conform to what others say you should eat
  • I never understood the fish exception, it's still made out of meat... just like any other animal.
  • I saw the other comments and I do know some people calling themselves vegetarians and eat any fish products too. +5
  • It depends on why you're vegetarian. Spiritual? Health reasons? Religious? Environmental? Most shellfish are bottom-feeders and many religious sects believe they are unclean. They are living entities as fish are, so if you don't eat fish, why would you eat shellfish? They are certainly not in the vegetables , fruit dairy and grains categories.
  • there is a special type of vegetarian called flexitarian. not all vegetarians don't eat meat. i know some who still eat poultry & fish. i don't personally believe in eating just veggies. i do try to keep my red meats to a minimum, though.
  • http://web.archive.org/web/20041107084521/http://eesc.orst.edu/agcomwebfile/news/food/vegan.html According to his calculations, such a model would result in the deaths of 300 million fewer animals annually i stand corrected. when I said free range, I should have said pasture-grazing
  • Because, they're meat.
  • I use my vegetarianism as a conscious choice not to do harm to animals. Any animals. No one is dictating what you should eat, but crabs and lobsters are in the animal kingdom just like insects are. I needed to find the meaning of the word "never" and apply it to control. I am focused on what it means to know that I will never do something out of a conscious choice. It has strengthed my resolve on many issues where I need to quit or change something because I know I am capapble of it.
  • a sea roach... i mean lobster is meat period if your a true vegetarian you don't eat anything that walked, crawled, slithered or swam
  • Lobster is actually made of flesh too, like any other animal, whether it is white meat or red meat, it is all flesh from a living creature. I would like to think I am a vegetarian, but my daughter calls me a pickatarian, because about once a month I will force myself to eat a very small portion of meat. I have only started eating meat once a month for the last few years, due to health reasons, but before that I did not eat any meat at all since I was 3 years old. ( parents not sure why I wouldn't and I don't remember why ) however the thought repulses me. I have no problem with anyone else eating meat either, it is thier choice.
  • Lobsters really aren't fishes. Biologically speaking, they have a bigger right to call you a fish than the other way around. Having said that, you alone decide what you want to eat, it would make sense however if you follow certain rules of internal consistency. If you are vegetarian because of ethical reasons, the preparation of lobsters is pretty crueal (they're boiled alive). Yet I don't know whether insects feel pain, that's another important question...
