  • Yes, don't do it, go to the Air Force Recruiter. If you are set on the Navy then I will tell you what you need to know and what to do.
  • The recruiter will tell you everything you need to know. I wish I joined the Navy. I'm stuck behind a computer in the Air Force.
  • If they talk about how great the Navy is, they are full of shit. My recruiter was honest. He said it sucked. Maybe it was reverse psychology, but I joined anyways and can't say I regret it. You want to get a guaranteed A-school if you can though. Going in as an AT sucks because you have NO idea what you'll be doing after boot camp and a few weeks of AT training, but probably BM (Boatswains mate) or MM (Machinists Mate... in the hottest part of the ship). Get an A-school! Have a little control over your destiny! I went in for Nuclear Field, wound up as an Electricians Mate, and spent my time in the fleet with nearly free reign over the ship. Guaranteed School = better Naval career.
  • I would recommend that you not focus on the branch, but rather, what you want to do. good example, a food service specialist. all branches have them, however, they all go to Fort Lee, Virginia for training. with the exception of the Navy, since they do "on the job training" thing about the tangibles, and what you want. If you join the Navy, you will be on a ship, at sea, for months at a time, if you join the Air Force, there is a good chance you will be stationed in a very isolated area (due to the sound and loudness of the planes) If you take a job in combat arms, you will get deployed to fight, in addition, any support job also deploys. If you know what you want to do, talk to the other branches, and see if they can offer a better deal I have seen people join differant branches for the same job, and one person from one branch gets a bonus for the job, while the others don't. or other perks like Guaranteed station of choice Additional college money repayment of student loans I would really suggest that you talk to all branches, and then decide what to do. • What was that song by the Village People? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=InBXu-iY7cw Forget about the Navy man. You wanna see the world through a porthole? Jerv is correct about a lot of things, but Navy Sux. In the Air Force you don't have to stay stuck behind a computer. You too can enjoy the great outdoors of Iraq, Afghanistan, Thule Greenland, Malmstrom Montana in the winter, or Diego Garcia. AND it's a lot easier to get college classes if you're landside.
  • Before you sign anything at a recruiting office, check out the Air Force first. I was in the Air Foce for eight years and enjoyed every minute of it. Its not like the other branches of the military, the Air Force is more administrative oriented. The Air Force is much more relaxed than the other branches. See an Air Force recruiter before you sign anything. You'll be glad you did and remember John told you so.
  • Recruiters lie....that is all.
  • There is an old navy saying that "the best sea duty is worse than the worst shore duty." If you don't get that then good luck. The Army and the Marines don't have sea duty and they have good training too if this is what you are after. Find some vet who had or has a good career and get some second opinions. Us Navy 1958-1962.
  • Oh please dont... You really have NO idea what you're in for until you get there. The Military is NOT a bad haircut... *Well actually, it is in part but that is beside the point. You have no idea what your going to get until you get it and once you do, YOU CAN"T LEAVE!
  • Yeah! Consider Army! Hooah!
  • Don't believe everything you hear, both at the recruiter and on here, Good luck...+
