Americans need a lot of pauses and breaks in their sports in order to show lots of adverts. In football there is only one break and that is not enough for the American companies who largely fund their own 'stop/start' sports.
This is just a guess because I'm not from the USA.
It's probably too subtle and doesn't contain enough violence. In addition it doesn't lend itself to being broken down into a series of statistics and the idea that a match can end in a draw seems to not go down too well.
Probably because it is not a game synonymus with the states
Because soccer's a game for Italian and Latino pretty-boys who shave their legs and would undoubtebly shave their chest if they had any hair there in the first place.
Besides, why would we like soccer when we have Football!
Two big-money sports overlap soccer season. Baseball, which started as rounders in the british isles, is popular in north america because its slow pace is fitting for the hot summers. North american football, as it evolved from rugby, takes up the fall. At least now there is an MLS.
Whereas in my youth there was no exposure to soccer until high school, you can see wee-tiny juvenile league play where the little soccer people have a great time forgetting their played positions and all run after the ball wherever it may be on the field.
There are also a lot of other well established sports in the US. In the rest of the world football is No.1 but the US has American Football, Baseball, Basketball, Ice Hockey - all with huge support. Football is growing in the US but it will take time.
