My '92 Geo Storm lost power recently, and it was diagnosed as leak in the manifold. Will changing the manifold, which is costly, bring back the power?

There can be intake manifolds and exhaust manifolds. The term describes basically: a pipe or tube that collects 2 or more inputs and reduces them into 1. "Weak manifold" is a poor description. A better description would be to say that you have a leak in your manifold. If a manifold, be it intake or exhaust, is leaking it can reduce engine performance. Intake manifolds leaking would be worse than a leaking exhaust manifold. If your exhaust manifold is leaking it could be a sign of deeper problems for example. 1. Bad engine mount, causing the engine in effect to rock, putting extra (twisting) pressure on you exhaust system. 2. Over heating can cause unnatural stress in metals. 3. Rapid cooling like have a very hot exhaust/engine and spraying directly (like at a car wash) with cold water. It could also possible be a common problem to that type of vehical.
