• Almost ALL dogs found at pet stores COME FROM PUPPY MILLS! It is rare to find a pet store that gets puppies from any place BUT a PUPPY MILL! NEVER BUY AN ANIMAL FROM A PET STORE!

• It's not the exact cross breeding that causes the problem, but the lack of consideration as to the exact pair USED for any breeding that leads to physical, mental/temperament challenges and illness. Then, I believe it is often compounded by the introduction of Vaccines to many dogs. Added to that, the feeding of commercial foods that the dogs are not designed to digest and so are not receiving all of the nutrition they need...it all adds up to PROBLEMS. That's why I encourage showing! Not because I love shows or the AKC, but to help weed out dogs that SHOULD NOT be bred, when the owner (byb) knows nothing about bloodlines or what qualities are needed to pass on and help improve or stabilize the breed. Of course with Puppy Mills, there is no hope for education, or improvement, they have only ONE GOAL...to make more money.

• And what is REALLY SICK...is that those Collies that were outside in the mud...would be perhaps considered the lucky ones. MOST breeding dogs owned by Puppy Mills NEVER get to be outside at all. They are kept in wire or cement cages and only taken out to breed. Some never have stepped on Green grass, or gone for a walk, or been played with one single time in their entire lives....It is no wonder that some of them...literally...go insane.

• I'm glad you added that point (about shelters); a lot of people seem to not like puppy mills but will buy into the production of pedigree animals by buying from private breeders, like there are not enough animals that need homes out there already.
