Look into ways of messing up (for lack of a better phrase), your sleep patterns. LaBerge and Rheingold et al have written on this so Google what they have to say about it. If you are trying to hold down a job it can be a tricky method to practise of course. Keeping a dream diary will help the process. I tell you what doesn't work (well, I can only speak for myself here); the gadgets you can buy that stimulate you with lights and sounds once you hit REM sleep etc..
