Yes, many times, to both of the above... our jack russell terrier was quite the escape artist. He always took himself off to see his favourite dog, or to go to his favourite walking place.

Yes. Our cat Tigger. He adopted us when we lived in the apartment in Riverside. On moving day he got frightened I think..I was vigorously vacuuming the rugs...the guys were coming in and out taking boxes/furniture. Hectic day and when we were ready to leave we couldn't find him. Jim talked to our neighbors and gave them our new phone number and asked them to let us know if they found him. Meanwhile Jim went back every day for two weeks trying to find Tigger. He left food and water in the patio. One night about a month later we got a phone call. The neighbor caught him and had him in a pet carrier. We met mid-way between Riverside and Hemet and got Tigger. The neighbor would take no money or anything. A very good neighbor! :)

During a move, we lost our cat, Bandit. We figured she bolted out the door when we were moving the furnitue out. A couple days later, we went back to complete the cleaning, to get out deposit back. We heard a faint "meow" coming from one of the kitchen cuboards. Bandit had hidden in one of the deep cuboards, under the sink, to get away from all the comotion. She came to us imediately for a very happy ending.

Not yet, my animals wont leave side, I used to have a dog that ran all the time, 15 years ago, but he always came running back home -
tiger cat i had just moved into new home he got out. i was sure he was gone for good and would not find his way back since i had just moved in. he did find his way back after 4 tearful days for me. i now have an enclosed back deck for my babies and both have name tags with my phone number and OOPS@JENS and BINKY@JENS +5

Yes; Had a black Tom who suddenly grew up and wanted to travel :-) Well he was my friend and when he disappeared I missed him. One day ,two weeks later he showed up. He was nervious and ran up a tree.I climbed up the tree to save him.Wrong plan.He let he pick him up but then scratched my hand big time.Still have scar. Ended up at the Drs with Drs telling mom not to let me play with cats that scratch as I could get cat scratch disease.Black Tom's traveling only increased as time progressed.Can only guess as to what he was up to.
