  • Check Engine lights (all makes 1996 and newer OBDII) will clear themselves when a fault has been corrected. Depending on the fault it may require a certain number of drive cycles and/or a certain amount of mileage without the fault reoccuring before the light will go out. Disconneting the battery for a while will often turn off the light if there are no more faults. However, it will still need to have proven drive cycles and usually between 50 and 100 miles of troble free driving before the readiness status is reset and the vehicle can pass emision testing.
