The teeth and gut system of humans show that we are omnivores: we are capable of eating anything, including meat (even chimps eat the odd monkey or small mammal, grubs etc)
It is our choice if we choose not to eat it, but we are depriving ourselves of nutrients not easily obtained from plant food only.

Who says we are not supposed to eat animals?
Man has been eating animals since man first existed, and I don't have an issue with that as long as the animals are farmed in a sustainable and ethical way (feed lots are an example of a farming practice that is neither of those things).
