They have webpages made up of multiple components that source data from different servers, like adverts, traffic analysis and graphics from all over the net. This slows down data transfer. Also, make sure you don't have to many tabs open on your browser because many sites refresh every minute or so.

Use a better browser if this is happening as it means the process is draining your resources (usually iexplore.exe taking 99% CPU or 35,000+ RAM) Three finger salute (Ctrl+Alt+Del) Task Manager to ensure it really is the browser. Try Opera, Firefox, Chrome, Maxthon, Safari etc instead until you find one that doesn't do that to your system
