Beer goes flat a few hours after it is open, even if you have a top or sealer on it. It is still good for to use for cooking as the flavor lasts longer.

It depends whether you like drinking flat beer or not. If you're at a house party, absolutely pissed and the guys on the drink run have been gone hours and show no signs of return, then if there is an open drink down it regardless or you'll sober up too quick and realise that you shouldn't have passed out on the floor.

For years and years. But it would no longer be drinkable, it would be a blackened tar-like substance in the bottom of a cold mug.
