its when some people think jesus was born.

it is the celebration of christ's birth. It is probably not the right day of the year, as daniel has pointed out, but it was probably chosen to be celebrated then for two reasons: 1) it is 9 months after Annunciation Day, March 25, which is the traditional date of the coming of the Angel Gabriel to Mary.(also called Lady Day) 2)there were pagan winter festivals held at that time before communities became Christians. Instead of cancelling these festivals and introducing new ones at a different time of the year, it was just as easy to replace these celebrations with a Christian theme.(if you think there is anything wrong with that, then think what would happen if a new government tried to stop one of your holiday seasons....) The narratives of the birth of Jesus are found in Matthew 1 and 2 Luke 1 &2
