  • The first day of Rosh Hashanah falls on Shabbat (Saturday), so we don't blow the shofar in case someone breaks the Shabbat getting their Shofar to the synagogue. Well, at least that's the superficial reason. The deeper reason is that the Shofar's sound is meant to show that we are loyal subjects of the Supernal King and we're proclaiming our dedication out loud. Shabbat is an extra spiritual day, when we are as close to G-d as if we are inside His throne room. When we stand so close to the king, we don't have to shout to be heard.
