Good question. The answer is "yes", though in all honesty my firearms wouldn't be my first pick for a weapon, depending on circumstances. First priority is to get my wife and kids moving to a better position of safey and to get them on 911. This gets them moving further from harms way, buys them time, and lets people outside the home know there is trouble so help will be on the way. Next would be fending off whatever attack may come about. To that end, my first choices would probably NOT be my firearms, as they are not kept in readily accessable places because I have three young children. The kitchen is FULL of cutlery; I have tools readily accessable in the house like hammers and various sharp edged impliments; and other convenient weapons, like a baseball bat and so forth. If circumstance were to allow me ready access to my firearms, I would go for my Colt .45 and/or my Remmington 12 GA pump. My reasons for choosing these are: 1. In the world of criminal activity, the goal is to get in and get out quickly (without notice preferably) and without anything going wrong (like getting hurt, killed, or caught). Nothing tells an attacker that things have gone South quite so readily as the universal sound of a 12 Ga. pump shotgun chambering a round, or the sound of a .45 ACP racking a round. This is a powerful deterent. 2. The goal of the firearm is to stop the attacker. Not to kill or injure innocent people who may be passing by outside or live next door. Kill the attackers: GOOD. Kill the little old lady in the house next door while she's watching her favorite soap opera and petting her cat with the bullets intended for the bad guy: BAD. To that end, the .45 ACP and the shotgun are well suited. They provide plenty of close range power, yet lose significant amounts of energy with both distance and objects penetrated, like wood and drywall in the walls of the house.

Although I do not own a fire arm, and do not really like them much, I am military trained and can use them well ... I do own 136 various blade weapons and numerous other martial arts weapons ... my favourite ninjato is on a display stand within easy reach and would be my weapon of choice ... with it I can amputate ankles or wrists with blurring speed and surgical precision, so they will be quickly disarmed and unable to escape ... ... if I am with a friend at their home when the invasion occurs, then I would prefer to use their gun because they have no swords lying around and I have not spent any time practicing martial arts in their home and do not have all distances to all walls and all furniture blindly memorized the way I have done in my home ...
