Is a taxi driver generally considered a failure in life?

My husband travels in third world countries. He relies on the taxi drivers to recommend good hotels and safe eating establishments. A good taxi driver is all he prays for!!

i shouldnt think so/. they do a great service and i think they make good money. where i live most cab drivers are newcomers and are not respected,which is terrible.

Driving Taxi is the best job in the world, it beats sitting behind a desk and or a computer all day. You can make all kinds of face to face; network business connections, friends, get job offers, etc...
In New Orleans, for example, Mardi Gras and tourism depends upon the strong backs of Taxi Drivers. Driving Taxi is a physically demanding job. To try and make fun of a Taxi driver would be no different than to make fun of a lumber jack, etc...
If you are ever new in any town, the smartest think for anyone to do is become a Taxi Driver because, in a short amount of time you will learn where you live better than anyone born and raised in that city.
Only a person that would think of a question like that would be considered a huge brainless failure in life.
Taxi Drivers are murdered each year as if they were important like presidents.
Taxi Drivers never know if the next doorbell they ring will be their last, they put their own life on the line everyday for ungrateful ignorant people like the one that asked this question. Lots of Taxi Drivers are world travelers, they travel to each country and or state to learn each one like the back of their hand.
When the economy goes sour there are some fields that do well such as, Car Repossession, Pawn Shops, Bounty Hunters, and yes, Taxi Driver because everyone has had their car repossessed.
