  • all they can ask or make you do is to exactly what you said "person's wherabouts," your relationship with him/her
  • If you lie to the police and they find out, I'm sure they'll go out of their way to make things as miserable as they can for you. They do not enjoy being lied to.
  • Now that you have told us this person is wanted, you can be charged with harboring a fugitive. You will be arrested for this, if you do not co-operate with the police and answer their questions. Also, by giving false information.
  • You can get in trouble if you are hiding the wanted person. Or if you know they are say...in your closet and you tell the police you don't know where he/she is. What can they ask? They can ask anything. Your best bet is to say nothing. I do mean nothing. You do not have to say a word. If you are placed under arrest request an attorney and say nothing.
  • That's a very good question. I have often wondered what happens if a person refuses to say what they know. I have read that some cases go unresolved because no one involved is willing to talk about, and justice goes unserved.
  • If you know the police are looking for them, and your question makes it seem that you do, then yes. You can get in trouble for harboring a fugitive. Even if you aren't directly hiding them, you are misleading the police and you can get nailed for "interfering with a police investigation" if you lie to the police. If they have reason to believe that you know, yes, they can question you wherever they want to whenever they want to...it is as easy as a phone call for them to subpoena you. You don't HAVE to answer questions...but if you were hiding the person to begin with and they find this out...if you then continue to not answer you are going to dig yourself a pit you won't want to be in...however, you can use cooperation as a plea bargain to keep out of trouble. Remember, the police are already after the other person, not you. If they are going to catch the other person they are going to catch them. Not much you can do about that. The police catching that person AND you is worse. Stay clean and out of trouble, answer their questions and make it easier on everyone involved.
