That depends - it bothers me when the only reason they downrate is because they do not agree. There are times, however, when I expect to be downrated - for example - i asked a quesion about useless moderators, and so it came as no surprise that it was downrated. People look after their own!

Yes and no. Many of my answers are just meant to be funny and can be flippant. Some people don't find it funny (and I'm sure some of them just aren't as funny as I thought they'd be when I typed them). I'm OK with that. I do get somewhat irked when I express an opinion and get DR'd by someone who presumably disagrees with me. I'm a conservative, it happens often.

not at all ... its not like we get an actual prize or cash award for ascending through the ranks ... dock me a BILLION points, i don't care

I am amused by down-rating and usually know when to expect it. I sometimes wind up the god-botherers and expect, and get, -ve points.
-
Well, somewhat, I guess. It would make me wonder what was happening. . this is a question where everyone deserves to be downrated.
-
Only if it's based on their different opinion. And, usually it is.
-
I never pay attention!!

The only 2 problems for me. #1 when people do it without explaining why, although even then really only when the second reason is the cause of the DR. #2 I don't think you should DR with someone just because you don't like what they say. If they answer the question truthfully then let it be. If what they say is wrong or they just don't get it then DR them and have the balls to tell them why. As for the DR itself I could care less. But I am annoyed by spineless people

Sane people downrate only total jerks. Opinion of the others does not bother me.

I have to admit that it's not something I pay a lot of attention to but I'd hate to think that someone who may be peeved at me for whatever reason would take it out on people answering my question. The whole thing is so childish anyway;)
