  • It depends mainly on how much money and effort the manufacturer spends on the keyboard mechanism. Some of them simulate an acoustic piano quite well, and some don't even bother -- they have no weighted action and feel like any cheap Wal-Mart home keyboard. I have an older Technics console model that has a pretty good action. It can't be mistaken for a Steinway, but you get used to it quickly, it offers the satisfying 'thunk' of the hammer on a string. Just go to the store and spend time with more than one keyboard. Send the salesman off to bug someone else for a while :)
