Great Danes are bigger than wolves, beef cattle are much bigger than wild oxen, thoroughbred horses are bigger than wild ponies and carthorses are even bigger, the larger pig breeds are larger than wild boar. Domesticated cats are about the same size as wild cats. I don't agree with your initial premise: we breed animals the size we want them: some larger, some smaller than their wild ancestors.
