Can someone explain to me what the movie Silent Hill is about? After watching it I am a bit confused on what the hell is going on other than the obvious.

I think pretty much all it is is the obvious. It was based on a video game, and I think maybe if you are familiar with the video game, then you will understand the movie better. I've never played the game, but watching the movie, I could see the comparison. While she's walking through the town, you could tell that would be when she would find weapons and energy and all that, and then she comes to the point when she has to fight the bad guys. I guess that doesn't really answer your question, but I kind of feel the same way you do about it.

The Silent Hill video games usually blur the lines between the "real" world and the spectral or surreal world, often blending them together so as not to distinguish one from the other. In the movie, to put it in a nutshell, the woman and her daughter were already dead but were unaware of it, that's why her husband could not see them at the end.

I think boat Rose and Sharon died in accident in the very begining of the movie thus entered parralel word of Sillent hill. But it would not be the first time that dead come back to life from SIllent hill ( If worthy ) like in homecoming game , Amnion vomits Josh and Alex is able to take him home . Sharon should not have opend her eyes when she was told not to :) She does have Allesass powers thus that action might've be what trapped them between life and e death .
