Don't Dream It's Over (Neil Finn) LYRICS There is freedom within, there is freedom without Try to catch the deluge in a paper cup There's a battle ahead, many battles are lost But you'll never see the end of the road While you're traveling with me Hey now, hey now Don't dream it's over Hey now, hey now When the world comes in They come, they come To build a wall between us We know they won't win Now I'm towing my car, there's a hole in the roof My possessions are causing me suspicion but there's no proof In the paper today tales of war and of waste But you turn right over to the T.V. page Now I'm walking again to the beat of a drum And I'm counting the steps to the door of your heart Only shadows ahead barely clearing the roof Get to know the feeling of liberation and relief Hey now, hey now Don't dream it's over Hey now, hey now When the world comes in They come, they come To build a wall between us Don't ever let them win ================== Basically, the girl ( in this case) is afraid that the relationship is going to end, but he is trying to reassure her that he will never leave her. Some relationships may end, but not theirs. "There's a battle ahead, many battles are lost But you'll never see the end of the road while you're travelling with me" So he begs her "Don't fream it's over" and tells her not to let outside things affect their relationship "They come, they come To build a wall between us" He is confident they will make it: "We know they won't win" the other verses reinforce the idea that there are a lot of things that don't go to plan, but, ultimately, she should believe that their relationship will work: "Get to know the feeling of liberation and relief" I saw Paul Hester, the drummer in Crowded House host the Max Sessions with the John BUtler Trio at Sydney Opera House just before he committed suicide. I remember my daughter and I looking at each other and commenting that he was behaving very manically. He was clearly making the descent. I wish he could have gotten help.
