  • Because they are entitled to their beliefs, just as you are entitled to believe that there is no God. To many religious folks, the "proof" of Science does not outweigh their faith, or what they know to be true. They are entitled to believe that, and the should not be ridiculed for doing so, despite ones own personal opinion.
  • hehe, I wondered how much would you religious freaks downrate this question.
  • That's actually pretty simple; science does not disprove the gods, magic, or anything else spiritual. What it does is, ideally, show the tools those deities/spirits use to form creation around us. Really, it's not that far a leap to go from creation to Yahweh guiding life through its formation process until he is happy with it, and then leaving that protean ability behind so that his wondrous creations can survive the cataclysms and tribulations the Earth shall unleash upon them. Basically, people still believe in their gods because there isn't a definitive reason not to. What you see as cold, logical science could really be their powers and influences doing their slow, subtle work. I uprated you, by the way, because you asked a good question, and religious nuts who rate people down for asking such things really piss me off.
  • Because they don't trust science and facts.like muslims some christians are living in the dark ages as well as other cultures .not that there is anything wrong with that but c'mon the bible is a fake
  • Because Gods creation is very scientific, just look at the universe the earth from the smallest thing to the largest, we see grand design.
  • Because technology and science don't change the existence of the Lord Jesus Christ nor do they change the inerrancy of His Word, the Bible. -In the service of the Master. Thank you and God bless you!
  • Because people are AFRAID of change. You see the bible and all that other religious nonsense has a very long history and has been told and retold and passed on through generations. The scientific understanding of the natural world is relatively new, thus it is a very big change from the old teachings of the bible. Most people CAN NOT deal with change, so they can not accept it. When that happens they will disregard even the most obvious of facts. Plain and simple.
  • Because the people you talk about have faith. I only wish I had it because it sounds a damned sight better lifestyle than most of us enjoy.
  • I think people believe in a new age god, free of all the superstitions and trappings, and guilt, of religions of the present or past.
  • Tis a wonder this technology and advanced science cannot explain this as with so much else ;)
  • Maybe because a lot of people are wise to the fact that, although science does answer a lot of things, it cannot answer everything.
  • If you were told from the day you were born that you could fly if you were pure of heart, you would believe so. And when you discover you cannot fly, you will blame yourself for not being pure of heart.
  • There is a deep need inherent in humans to have strong faith in something--for some this is science and technology, for others it is God. When you really think about it, one can make *anything* into a religion. One just don't call it that.
  • Good question. How could believing in God increase our chances of survival, especially if he orders us to be nice to everyone? Another question, why does the fact that we've invented a couple of toys make us think that we're too smart to believe in God? Why do we need car factories and why are they so big? If horses can build more horses and they just happened by accident, shouldn't it be a piece of piss to invent a self reproducing car? Or was the horse built by someone who was smarter than us?
  • Becuase theres nothing much to do, so believe in god and have something to do --- Or its just that people dont have much hope and fill their senses with a false security (GOD)specially christians - wow their crazy.
  • We want to live forever, to never die and disappear. It is scary to be alone in the Universe....so....we created God, Heaven, and the next, better life where we are going to reunite with our loved ones. Nice!
  • Because He's real. And nothing we create can explain Him away.
  • 1. We are relying on eye-witness accounts handed down by our ancestors. 2. Because science doesn't give us hope but God does. With science: Friction guarantees that you never get back what you put in - if you want a 100W motor, you have to put in 110W and just accept that 10W is lost as heat whether you like it or not. The second law of thermodynamics says that all energy is turning to a form that is unusable ("If you think things are bad now, just wait.") If we assume a 50:50 chance of good luck or bad luck then the law of probabilities suggests that half of us will be 'mostly lucky' and half of us will be 'mostly unlucky'. One in a 1024 people will spend ten tenths of their life being unlucky. One in 1 048 576 people will spend twenty twentieths of their life being unlucky. And one in 1048576 people will spend twenty twentieths of their life being lucky. These latter people will declare themselves to be Gods as they always get whatever they want. The former will desperately be wishing there is a God because everything they do (including suicide attempts) turns to shit. Sure, they never know, they might just be the people who are unlucky for the first part of their life and lucky for the rest of it. But the only real hope to escape an unlucky life is if there is a God that can eliminate the laws of probability.
  • Because some of us feel something within us which cannot be explained. It is something with which we can sometimes connect, get fleeting glimmers of beauty and comfort from and yet can never hold onto. Hence we seek to discover It and hold onto It. For myself I can only say, I am hardwired to find this God and no matter what science says to disprove It's existence, I personally know that It exists. Rubbish answer but best I can do right now.
  • It's comforting.
  • Because they do. Why do people care if other people believe in God?
  • poeple are still blind to reality
  • I think that they need hope, to have a reason for existence and to think that they will somehow live on after their body dies. If they didn't think this they would have to accept that they need to do more with the time they have on Earth and start to think outside the "box."
  • Because He is still being patient with us and giving us time to get to know Him.
  • Probably for the same reason that people choose to deny the existence of a god. They probably feel that this world that we live in, was made by a designer, because they can't swallow the idea that we are the result of a random act of chaos, that happened a few billion years ago, resulting in the creation of the universe as we know it. Basically, it seems logical to them.
  • Because they desire to know why.
  • Well, faith is a pretty big reason.
  • Why would we who do believe turn our backs on God? As believers, aren't we supposed to be solid in our faith, even in the face of worldly "wisdom"? 1 Corinthians 1:20 tells us that without God the wisdom of the world is foolish, this is because they are without the spirit, as 1 Corinthians 2:14 says. Those of us who believe and have experienced Gods glory and power and grace are called to persevere as James 1:12 says: blessed is the man that perseveres under trial. So why do we still believe? Simple, because God believed in us and is always near to us, as Deuteronomy 31:6 reminds us: for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.
  • For me, when I was young, it was hard to. After completely encircling the globe and being to very many countries, being in a war, and being many years in law enforcement, it would be foolish to me to think otherwise. Some very powerful things has happened to me.
  • What I'd like to know is this: Why does God still believe in us? With all the careless things people have done to dishonor God's name, it's a miracle He hasn't given up.
  • Cuz just like Mark Twain, the "Rumors of His Death are Greatly Exaggerated"!!! John
  • Easy.... He is all around us. People with the Holy Spirit in them actually feel Him as well, so why wouldn't be believe? Satan is doing everything he can to make people doubt. PRIDE is a huge reason as well. God bless
  • Because He is God and worthy of our belief.
  • Cause He still believes in us.
  • Because they want it so bad that they are willing to believe anything.
  • Belief in God or a "Higher Power" (or whatever the preferred form of Address) gives many people meaning, structure and purpose to their lives. Hard to find fault with that.
  • well, why wouldnt i beleive them? they do have power, the power of christ's blood when he died and was raised from the dead, and its never been proven historically incorrect or incomplete, and has the most evidence supporting it archaeologically and historically then any other book ever written.
  • Why would they try to learn the difference between civilian and combatant, when they believe that they are looking at a combatant. The nature of good propaganda is that it is insidious. Not everyone in the world has the benefit of reading that which you have read, or viewing that which you have viewed. No one else has had your life, so no one else can possibly have your identical viewpoint. That doesn't make them stupid, it makes them NOT YOU. They do not want to turn to a different source of information for very similar reasons that YOU don't want to turn to THEIR sources of information.
  • If is wrong on all of this points, then why has it spread so quickly? I would like to see this proof that you have that the Bible contradicts
  • Much the same reasons that people have believed in God for so many thousands of years before now, because it's an appealing idea and has been handed down through the generations via community/parent-to-child indoctrination.
  • Why do they believe in Uri Geller even though it has been shown in live broadcast that he is a liar and a fraud?
  • Old habits die hard.
  • 'cos all the prophecies are coming true. And even some atheists are actually going out of their way to try and make some of the prophecies come true. Sure it may be happening at glacial speed compared to the 'must have everything now' generation but it's still happening. Now would be a really dumb time to 'stop believing'.
  • Also, Dr. Phil Plait, author of the Bad Astronomy blog, has written about this in his books, however I do not own them, so his web site refers to web postings by the Angry Astronomer's "Big Bang Misconceptions" page. Want to guess what he thinks the #1 misconception is? That the Big Bang is an explosion. "The frequent picture people seem to have is matter flying outwards from a single point (like an explosion). However, the matter is all actually standing still while space itself expands dragging the matter with it." Can we agree now that I was right about the Big Bang?
  • One logical argument that I have found is that this theory takes out human intervention and thought. By saying that a civilization thrived only because of where they were is like saying putting a 5th grader in a highschool class room will help him succeed in school. True, the environment of a civilization does help, but ultimately it is the people, not the environment, that make it actually succeed or not. An example is war, specifically battles, in which one side has an advantage and a certain battlefeild over the enemy, but loses because they implemented a bad strategy, or didnt account for their left flank. So I see the point of the theory, but it over-simplifies how civilizations actually thrive. As to why European civilization was so successful, I can not begin to guess, save for the fact that they have, but pinning that success on one factor is doing them injustice.
  • Maybe a better question would be... Why are there so many people that don't believe in God and I'm assuming you are referring to the Christian one. You already know what a Christian will say..
  • Chemistry and physics provide the standard for radiometric carbon dating. And while no one has dug up enough earth to find a textbook strata, enough of the parts have been found, parts that occur consistently that the rest can be safely extrapolated. It's like the fossil record; it is impossible to find ALL of the fossils without diggin up the entire planet, and even then fossilization is rare because MOST organisms are eaten or decomposed, but there is enough information to form a reliable tree of life, in which we fill in the gaps as we go along. There will ALWAYS be holes in the fossil record; in fact, if you find a fossil to fill one gap, you are left with TWO gaps on either side of that fossil. But gaps in the record don't negate the record, as I'm sure you are aware.
  • I believe in God, God give me a life, he give me a family, he give me a good job, he give me stability, a beautiful young boy, I can see God everywhere I go
  • I understand your point, I give you my answer because I assumed from your question that you were directing it to the "people" and I count my self as one of the "people", it is difficult to explain something that you believe in to some one who does not believe in it, yes, it hurts me that people make fun of Christians, but at the end of the day I wont hate you, I will pray to God that he put his love in your heart, but never mind, I know by just saying this to you I have opened a door to your soul for God, one day you will remember this. God loves you and he wants you to be well. Was it necessary to DR me on my answer?
  • This one should get you started...sorry, but Harper's magazine, where this was originally printed with color pictures, now charges a fee to view articles. WEhat I have posted is far more boring to look at, but I originally found it in the publication "The Best Science and Nature Writing 2004.) Actually I also own the 2003, and 2005 editions, and it might actually be in one of those instead. Anyway, it's a lot easier to look at in a book than in this crummy text, but here's the link. It's lengthy, so in the interest of giving you time to review it, and in hopes that you will actually read it, I will not post any other examples at this time. http://www.yorku.ca/dcarveth/false_testament
  • I think it comes down to some combination of the following: They have been taught to accept truth from authority (preacher, bible, etc) rather than to look for it themselves. They don't but find that god is a great way to make a living and to influence politics. They find that Great Parent in the Sky comforting and reality a bit harsh. They are too lazy to learn science and prefer to laugh at the straw-men their preachers give them. They don't want too but are still too afraid of their hell to completely let go. It's an addiction.
  • Why do they still don't believe in God?
  • Why question a man's faith.
  • Because all things were created by Him and through Him. He is the Alpha, Omega, beginning and the end.
  • If you knew Him---this wouldn't be a question of why--But why not?
  • Because to me, science proves the existence of God. i.e. DNA its a pattern ATCG and in certain patterns it creates instructions. It is a message and messages come from intellegence. To say that DNA is not a intellengent message is like saying sky writing is just cloud evolution. Also, have you seen the size of the universe? The next closest star to our sun is so far away that our space shuttle traveling at 6 miles a second would take 200,000 years to reach it. That means that if a space shuttle left at the time of Christ it would be only 1/100th of the way to the next closest star at 6 miles per second. How many stars are there in the universe? Some scientists say that its comparable to the amount of sand on all the earths beaches and each one is that far apart. I can't remember exactly where it is or the exact wording but in the Old Testament God says if you want to see his majesty just look to at the heavens. GOD IS AMAZING. Also how much information is in one single cell? enough to fill one thousand complete volumes of encyclopedias and how many cells do you have in your one pinky toe? It is comparable to filling a 2,000 square foot home from floor to ceiling with baby peas and that is how many cells are in your pinky toe and each one is filled with 1,000 encyclopedias of information in the DNA. To say that happened on accident is insane and personally, I believe it takes more faith to believe in the accident then it does to believe that it happened by intellegence. By the way I am a former Atheist turned Christian after taking a 1610 Biology class and being taught that this all happened by accident and couldn't keep believing that.
  • believing is god is like believing theres hope..and hope for the best... what i think...and more.. god is good and devil is evil its a thingy...the line what is good and what is evil... good is hope... and its good to have hope.. without having proof.. its faith... and .. yeh
  • Because we still haven't thought of a way to commercialize bliss via technology.
  • faith... thats all you need
  • Why not? Look at science this way: it's like we are in a dark room with a flashlight. Now we have a bigger flashlight. Perhaps we can light up the whole room. But we still don't know who built the house or how it was built or why.
  • A very good question. I sometimes wonder the same thing about people who beleive in Horoscopes. But the beleif that there is a God, higher power, or creator does not make anyone less intelligent. In fact, alot of science really makes a great case for the existence of God. And the more a person learns, often times makes them so much more aware of the amazing ways that even the simplest cells work. Some say that it would take a whole lot more faith in the assumptions and theories of random chance, than it would be to beleive in a God. I am one of those who would say that. LOL
  • They think they need it, which is not true. They are confused, essentially.
  • Um ... perhaps because s/he still believes in them?
