Depends on what you're painting, really.... Just unevenly shaped patches of spray-paint are essentially how the trucks, etc, are painted.

Awoid continuing lines and shapes. Use neutral colors that also exist in the surroundings (eg: no reds and greens on arctic camo). Do not use a repeating pattern.
