I just learned how to design websites. How do people get paid for building websites for other people? Is it hourly rate ( if so how much)? Or do they charge by the project (if so how much)?

Usually, by the project. At my work, we have just contracted with a web design firm to build a website for us containing about 20 pages for a cost of $10,000.

An easy way to find out how much web designers charge is to look at the companies that list prices on line. I believe most charge by the project. A good place to start is to offer your services on Get A Freelancer . com.

I would say you need to advertize. Trying to target fairly new or start up company. They will want a website and not know how to do it or even who to call. A small company will have a small buget, but will not want to much for design, so easy for yu. Tell them yu will be reasonable. As the others have said it depends on how complicated , big a site they want. good luck..
