Slumdog Millionaire and Trade. They are great movies. Slumdog is about children living in the slums of India. Trade is about the sex trade and takes place in Mexico. Definitely recommend them for some intense emotion.

1997 " Funny Games " directed by Michael Haneke I've not seen Haneke's recent American remake, but this 1997 original film upset me for a full three weeks after viewing it. Few movies have ever affected me so viscerally, without hardly a scene of gore. Unbearable suspense. Flawless performances all around. This movie introduced me to this director. I've since watched more of his work -- all of it highly disturbs me but there is not doubt in my mind that Haneke approaches if not attains, 'genius' status as a director in his body of work.

Mediterraneo (1991) - an Italian film about a unit of drafted soldiers marooned on a Greek island when their ship was sunk. The scenery, music and the sheer medterranean-ness of the whole thing is just great.

To date: "He Died With a Falafel in His Hand" Because I love crazy surrealism and this movie is hilarious.
