A challenging computer question. On my PC, (Windows XP) Internet Explorer 8 won't open Amazon.com but other browsers (Chrome and Firefox) will. Why is IE8 blocking Amazon?

You've put it in the wrong zone in your internet options. It's one reason not many people use IE8 willingly it's got a mind of it's own.
