  • Its all about the ratings.
  • It is not always "about points". Recently I wrote an answer about names because I felt my answer would be useful: http://www.answerbag.com/q_view/167664/532505 Context is important, please could you provide more information?
  • Just because someone can't answer a question doesn't mean they can't offer some information related to it. I occasionally apologise for not knowing an answer - that may be before I: a) ask for clarification b) offer somewhere where an answer may be found c) ask why the question was asked in the first place. d) etc. (there could be hundreds of reasons) Answerbag shouldn't be above dialectic.
  • Just to see if they can get points for not knowing something they think its worth a try
  • I'm sorry, I don't know. All right, I had to say that. But SERIOUSLY, I think sometimes people just want to participate but at the same time want to let you know that they want to help you but can't. I really don't think it's about the points because I don't know how they could expect them with the answer they offered.
  • i try and answer but sometimes i can't say anything that don't help, but i would like them to know that i tried.
  • that's funny... maybe they just want to be part of the conversation and hope that it will lead to something else?
