  • Basically the umpire is calling interference on the batter/runner so he made the right call. The play is immediately dead and all runners are returned to their previously held base.
  • If the runner is running with one or both feet outside the running lane the last half of the distance to first base and if the runner interferes with the catch of the throw (not the throw itself but the catch of the throw) at first base, then the correct call is interference. As tibear said, it's an immediate dead ball, the runner is out, and all other runners return to their time of pitch base.
