It doesn't sound that tough. A lot of 6th graders are around that weight, and 30 lbs is not that heavy.

i think that is asking to much. i had study period in school for an hour and i took advantage and got all the home work i could done. this cut down on how many books i had to bring home from school. +5

locker... if not tell the school to provide a space for belongings that he does not need between classes or to take home... if not homeschool or hire a big kid to carry it

In college, I used to use a backpack with built in wheels and an extendable handle. Kmart used to sell them for about $20. You can get fancier ones at L.L. Bean for about $60 if the "cool factor" is an essential consideration for your sixth grader.
