How can ALL fingerprints be unique, when they are held on a small finite space? Eventually, wouldn't all fingerprint designs be exhausted?

Who knows if they really are all unique? No-one keeps a record of every single person's fingerprints and cross-references them against every single other fingerprint there is or has ever been, so really all that can be said is that no two identical ones have so far been found in the limited records.
