Good question. I sell them, donate them or ask people who might be intrested in them. I usually avoid charities unless I know they will actually give them away - Salvation Army resells clothes and other items to the poor. That is a crime. People donate those things for the poor, and since they and many others keep up to 66% of the donations and proceeds (operating costs excuse, yeah I know), I've looked for charities that actually think about the poor, and not just thmselves. So I usualy give directly to people. Whatever your felings on that, I'm sure you will agree with the following: Why deprive others of perfectly good books and force more trees to be killed? Sadly there is big movement to update college and school books yearly - little changes from year to year in those editins, but profits increase. If we say recycle, then giving them away is a good example.

There are many places where they can be given including thrifts stores, hospitals, prisons, senior complexes, mobile home libraries, mission groups, schools and libraries in developing nations, and so forth. If they are the tools of your trade, you could give them to a young person entering your profession. That was done for me. You can try to sell them on EBay or in a garage sale. There are many possibilities.

I work for a thrift shop in Phoenix and my area there is books. We use the money we get for selling them and donate a large amount to a group called Big Brothers and Sisters, so that really gives a great meaning to recycling.
