The Goliath Bird Eating spider is one of the largest in the world with a span of 12 inches. It lives in the rainforest of northern South America. It's fangs can penetrate human skin down to 2 centimetres. They are actually not a threat to humans and their bite will only cause a mild swelling reaction. They eat small crickets and sometimes mice. How's that? This is my 9 year old sons favorite creature!!

My husband wanted me to add this because unless you were there, you would never believe it. We live in eastern Canada where our summers are tragically hot (102) and the winters are freezing (-20) so most insects do not live here due to short lives. Anyhoo, my husband and friends were going to the summer cottage and as they unlocked the guest house door (like a big barn door) there was a spider as big as my husbands head! No joke. He screamed like a little girl and said profanities. I spoke with a zoologist who said it was impossible because of our temps. But my husband is not a liar or exaggerator!!

Sydney funnel-web spider. Most live on North Shore of Sydney. Very aggressive. Very poisonous. I have seen them at the bottom of heated swimming pools. They take their own bubble of air down into the warm water. They do this to keep warm in Winter. http://north-shore-times.whereilive.com.au/news/story/watch-out-funnel-webs-on-the-prowl1/
