Have access to a fax machine, PC, or phone? Have the teacher fax, email or call and tell you what assignments the kid has.

Reward instead of punish. Designate a reward for a week's worth of completed homework. If the homework doesn't get done, the reward doesn't get received. Reward is much more of an incentive.

Talk to the teacher. they can help come up with a method to make sure you know what home work he has and what has been turned in and what hasn't. They want him to be doing his best too and many are more than happy to assist.

At one point while I was in school my dad printed up a bunch of sheets that had all of my classes on it, then I had to write down what my homework was and have the teacher initial it every day. If I was missing someone's initials, I was grounded that day.

i'm not an expert or anything but you could make him Sit in his room and install hidden camera's and watch him to see what he did. If he had homework and threw it away you could make him do it. You could always go through his binder or Backpack for homework. YOu could schedule a conference with his teachers, and set up a plan, like he sits in his room everyday Mon-Thurs, then on Friday you pickup all his homework, make him do it, and escort him to school on Monday to make sure he turns it in. These are all suggestions and you don't have to use any of them.

Stop punishing. Try to reward good behavior (there must be some. ) Reward with small amounts of money. But be tough. Reward only good behavior. Not "almost" good. Keep rewards small.

Most schools now have the homework online. Or GO to the school and talk to his teachers.

You need to be in constant contact with his teachers...get their contact phone numbers, let them know that they are to call you every day to relate what the homework assignments are and that if you don't get a phone call from them within one hour of the end of the school day you will be calling them to check up on what the next day's assignments are...he is lying because he knows you won't check up on him until it is too late to take action. Punishment won't work after the fact. You need to be standing over him to be sure he is completing his assignments, and you need to be sure that if there is something he does not understand in his schoolwork you can help him with it. Been there, done that. Hugs.
