They don't need to. Look at the track record of the Government health care we have. When my mother was on Medicare, certain drugs were off limits. She had metastatic breast cancer, and when she switched to Medicare, they wouldn't pay for the drugs she was on. Her doctors had to change everything and certain treatments were off limits to her. She quickly ran out of options on Medicare, because her cancer had already learned to cope with many of the drugs Medicare offered, and the ones her cancer hadn't "seen" yet weren't allowed. She only lived a few months after the switch. Who needs "death panels?" All you have to do is deny people life saving medication and the job is done for you.

I suggest these links for starts: http://www.euthanasia.com/netherlands.html http://books.google.com/books?id=OXS8XBwP0coC&pg=PA300&lpg=PA300&dq=britain+denial+dialysis+after+65&source=bl&ots=syVSBFHUGt&sig=4E5KCk54UlnK6a6C5iteD7su87E&hl=en&ei=DJWaSvWdGoOc8Qb3nKS9BQ&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=2#v=onepage&q=&f=false One of my lifetime best friends was forsaken by government health care (Veterans' Administration) which found it expensive and impractical to admit his cancer, which is extremely rare without dioxin exposure, could be related to his exposure to Agent Orange in Vietnam. Also, consider all difficult and multiple-birth pregnancies in Canada are dealt with by shipping the mothers to the U.S. When U.S. healthcare is similarly ruined, there will be no such care for anyone, anywhere in North America.

There's a strong strain of fear and hatred of any whiff of socialism in the US, to the point where people will gladly believe things like that. I agree, it's so stupid that it's not even funny.
-
Yes we know it's stupid, but then consider who their audience is.

The ones who are incapable of doing their own research, and blindly listen to the ramblings of Sarah Palin apparantly do believe that National Health Systems are death panels, 'evil death panels', even - according to many of the rants I have witnessed on Answerbag. You are right, it is so stupid that its not even funny, it's also quite sad how people get sucked into propaganda and ideas even once they have been established beyond doubt to be out right lies.

There are a lot of stupid things going on in America. Here are some others I can't believe: 1. Women use abortion as a birth control method. 2. Children live with their parents until they are 40 years old and expect their parents to support them. 3. People carry loaded guns to political meetings just to show they can. Stupid reason!

There's a lot of right-wing Kool Aid out there... and a lot of people are drinking it.

Notice how all the smart people in here do their research, cite the specifics of "death panel" events, and put forth rational communication while the obamabots resort to their usual name-calling and personal attacks. Hmmmm... WHO are the stupid people?

A national health care system has limited resources and parcels medicines and treatments to people found to be most deserving. Do, however, give this a look. . http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052970204683204574358590107981718.html

There may not be a panel that sits down and decides that this person or that person will die, but that will be the effect of socialized medicine. Socialized medicine does result in rationing of services. This does result in the denial of services to people because it is deemed to be too expensive. It does result in long waiting lists for services. This does result in more people dying before they can receive the services that might otherwise save their lives. I would also point out Obama's own response to a question from a lady in which he responded that it would be better to have given pain killers to an elderly woman (essentially make her comfortable while she died) rather than paying for a pace maker (which vastly improved her quality of life and extended her life). Sorry, but they have given plenty of reason to fear the current healthcare reform proposals.

In effect, we already have them. When people who are unemployed, underemployed, uninsured or refused coverage by insurance companies cannot afford care, medications and treatments and there are no options for them, they can - and do die. There are several countries that provide adequate to excellent health care to their citizens without bankrupting the national budget. Why are there so many people struggling to find help with healthcare in this wealthy country? This idea of so many hard working citizens being unable to afford basic healthcare is an idea that is "so stupid its not even funny."
-
every insurance company has them...they just don't call them "death panels". I've known several people that died because their insurance company would not pay for a liver transplant or a heart transplant. These decisions are made by groups or panels of people that work for the insurance carrier. What do you call those people or groups that deny life saving procedures? I am amazed at the number of people that don't realize there are groups/panels that make these decisions at insurance companies...that's so funny it's not even stupid.

Fortunately, only the retarded ones do. Unfortunately, that encompasses bout 50% of the population.

hey!!! we already have "death panels". right now, they are called, "pre-authorization reviews" by private insurance companies and, yes, medicaid, a struggling federal - state system that must be propped up to survive.
