  • Yes, indeed. I had to travel far and fast to get home before my father passed away. But I was there. I would have been very sad to this day if I had not been there. Being there and being able to say goodbye meant everything at the time.
  • Yes, because you always would have the feeling of things being left unsaid-something left undone. I made sure my dad knew how much I loved him (even though I know he always knew that anyway) months before he passed away. The Alzheimer's was slowly stealing his mind, and I wanted the chance to tell him.
  • Yes indeed, but it depends on if the "Good-bye" is to someone who is dying, or to someone who is merely changing their ZIP® code. If there is a chance that the two people might see each other again someday, then "Good-bye" wouldn't be the right word to use. I'd suggest something more like this: "Good night, good night! Parting is such sweet sorrow, That I shall say 'good night,' 'til it be morrow." The idea is, keep it light and maybe somewhat humorous, to diffuse any potential sadness.
