The consumers control the media, ultimately. You and I. What the consumers demand/tolerate, is what they'll show. Once we grow tired of or reject a formula, it's done. User generated content, like on youtube, has given us all to make our concentrated voices heard more quickly

The Political affiliation of the owner of the Station. You could watch three different stations and get three completely different views. Why can't they just report the damn news the way it happens and forget their personal opinions. Let us decide for ourselves.

The media is supposed to be independent, but I'm sure that they are controlled by the same group of people that are running everything else in the world.

Good question. I think we can see who controls or at least strongly influences FoxNews. I have a hard time figuring who might be putting words in the mouths of newscasters on ABC CBS NBC CNN etc. Maybe the other answers here will help me find out.
